BEHIND THE SCENES

500 years later: Halaqah Media has spent 3 years on the film documentary 500 Years Later. We have worked with Lifteveryvoice and souljazzfunk to make this film possible. The image markets the film is of an enslaved woman 500 years ago and her descendant 500 years later who is still enslaved, but mentally. The image has nudity but this is honest of the enslavement condition and the current condition, and we felt it necessary for the mainstream audience to grasp that Africans were de-robed and enslaved and now they are mentally enslaved and self-de-robed. It shows the "Ghetto" enslavement as the legacy of 500 YEARS LATER. It challenges us to recognize how much things have not changed. The film opens at the dates seen on the front page. It will be toured across the USA and then Europe and Africa-stay posted for updates.

Dark Voyage: 4 years in production and research. Our greatest fear is doing the topic an injustice. A product of this nature walks a dangerous line as we are forced to tell terrible truths, but at the same time not encourage "reverse racism." Unfortunately there is no nice way to tell the story of the biggest Holocaust in the history of humanity. This story has never really been told within its proper context and it is essential out of respect for all those who died to be honest in our delivery—even if it is painful at times. It is also crucial to understand the link between “now” and Slavery--because it was not that long ago at all. And the legacy of that period is very fresh as people still fight for basic freedom and equality. We are in the studio laying down the effects to the narration which was recorded in New York.
